St. Laurentius Church in Kürzell

St. Laurentius Kirche Kürzell

The Sankt Laurentius Church in Kurzell was built between 1829 and 1830 by Hans Voss. The foundation stone for the church was laid on July 9, 1829. Also in 1829 the old cemetery around the church in Kurzell was given up. The tombstones of the cleared graves were placed on the cemetery wall, but they were all removed in 1962.

The church was used jointly by the Protestant and Catholic churches as a simultaneous church until 1962. The church was renovated in 1988/1989.

The Sankt Laurentius Church was built in the transition period from the baroque to the classicist style, both epochs are recognizable in the external effect. There is a certain simplicity of the Weinbrenner style.

The patron saint of the parish church is the martyr Laurentius (Laurentius of Rome), his feast, i.e. the church patronage, is on August 10th.

The church was used jointly by the Protestant and Catholic churches as a simultaneous church until 1962. The Sankt Laurentius congregation in Kurzell has been part of the newly formed Catholic parish of Friesenheim since 2015.
